Langnau facing serious crisis

President Hans Grunder of SC Langnau Tigers of the Swiss NLA is being kept busy these days denying rumors about his club’s financial troubles. Despite his efforts, the fact of the matter is that the club was unable to complete the necessary paperwork for the league before tomorrow’s deadline. On a side note, SCL manager Heinz Schlatter was chased from his job in Langenthal two years ago for messing up the books. Trouble seems to follow him around.

Will Geneva land Fritsche?

Geneva coach Chris McSorley is hot on the trail of center Dan Fritsche who split last season between the New York Rangers and the Minnesota Wild of the NHL. Fritsche holds both American and Swiss citizenship which makes him a hot commodity in Switzerland.

Jeff Toms heading for Geneva

Not satisfied with pay cut he was offered, Jeff Toms appears to be shunning his club of  the last three seasons, the Langnau Tigers, in favor of greener pastures in Geneva. The lanky Saskatchewan native has played a total of 199 regular season games in Switzerland for three different teams and tallied 238 points in the process.

Kloten plucks Stevenson from AHL

The Kloten Flyers have confirmed reports that they added Canadian Grant Stevenson from the Chicago Wolves to their line-up. The 27-year-old Spruce Grove, Alberta native has played 47 NHL games with San Jose but had an off-year last season putting up only 21 points in 59 games in the Windy City.

Brent Kelly follows pal Jeff Campbell to Olten

Herning Blue Fox’s top scorer from last season, Brent Kelly, has decided to make like his linemate, Jeff Campbell, and lace them up for Olten of the Swiss NLB next season. The 27-year-old center from Kitchener ripped up the Danish league last season with 24 goals and 35 assists in 36 games. Campbell, a winger from Hensall, Ontario, was equally prolific adding 17 goals and 38 assists.

Jean-Pierre Vigier from Geneva to Bern

SC Bern of the Swiss NLA have added Canadian winger J-P Vigier to their 2009-10 roster. The 32-year-old from Manitoba has 213 NHL games to his credit and played the last two seasons in Geneva where he had 66 points in 81 games.

Tim Stapleton as extra import to Zug

Many teams are cutting back on their expenses for the coming season. Not EV Zug. Although they already have their full contingent of foreign players , it looks like  the Swiss NLA club will sign a fifth import. Tim Stapleton returned to North America after playing for Zug’s current coach, Doug Shedden, in Helsinki with Jokerit in 2007-08. Now Shedden wants him back on his team. It could be that the deal has already been struck. Both sides are just waiting until his contract with Toronto officially expires at the end of June before making the announcement.

Langenthal enlists Larose for two years

34-year-old Cory Larose has agreed to a two-year contract with Langenthal of the Swiss NLB. Larose played in Langnau of the NLA in 2005-06. He has also played in Russia and Sweden. He spent last season in the AHL with San Jose’s farm team in Worcester.
