Krefeld completes roster with Globke

Former Florida Panthers right winger Rob Globke has signed a one-year deal with the Krefeld Penguins of the German DEL. The Michigan native played in 19 games with Fredrikshavn of the Danish AL Bank Ligaen in 2008-09 and finished with 13 points. He was a 2nd round NHL draft choice in 2002.

Frankfurt steals Eric Schneider

After getting his requested release from Hannover (German DEL), Eric Schneider promptly turned around and signed a new deal with the Frankfurt Lions. The speedy forward put in three solid seasons for the Scorpions and was their scoring leader year a year ago with 22 goals and 32 assists.

Clayton Beddoes for Jamie Bartman in Frankfurt

Former Boston Bruin Clayton Beddoes will assume the vacant assistant coach’s post with the Frankfurt Lions of the German DEL after Jamie Bartman took the head coaching position in Bolzano (Italian Serie A). Beddoes last job was as head coach with the Cologne Sharks in 2008. Bartman spent the last two seasons as Rich Chernomaz’s helper and would have returned for a third but Dwayne Norris released him from his commitment in order for him to become a head coach once again.

Garmisch picks up last two foreigners

Forward Garett Bembridge and defenseman Nicolas Dumoulin round out the import contingent for SC Riessersee of the German Bundesliga. Bembridge has already had stints in the Bundesrepublik in Crimmitschau and Schwenningen where he was quietly shown the door in 2007-08. Dumoulin comes straight from the CHL where he put up a solid 58 points in his first season as a pro.

ETC Crimmitschau can finally breathe a sigh of relief after passing the financial audit by the Bundesliga governing body ESBG. The club has teetered for several years between the Bundesliga and Oberliga levels, often battling money problems along the way.

Chris Taylor leaving Frankfurt?

According to US media, Chris Taylor will turn his back on the Frankfurt Lions of the German DEL and sign with the Rochester Americans of the AHL. The 37-year-old center has logged three solid seasons in Germany’s financial capital. Before landing in Deutschland, he spent several seasons in Rochester and with its parent NHL club, Buffalo.

Brad Williamson backs out of deal

Canadian defenseman Brad Williamson has changed his mind about returning to Ravensburg of the German Bundesliga citing personal reasons. Apparently he will be retiring and pursuing new career options. The 32-year-old from Thunder Bay, ON recorded 20 points in 47 games for the Tower Stars in 2008-09, his first season in Europe.

Huskies land Italo Johnson

Italian National Team defenseman Trevor Johnson will be moving north to Germany next season to prove himself in that country’s top league. The Kassel Huskies are making wholesale changes this season in the hopes of improving on their 14th place finish of last season, their first since being promoted to the DEL. The Canadian-born Johnson was voted the top d-man at the World Championship Division 1 tournament this spring in Poland. His team won the tournament and will be playing in the A group tournament in Germany next year.

Preston Mizzi is an Indian

The Hannover Indians, the newest member of the German Bundesliga announced the signing of right-handed Weisswasser centerman, Preston Mizzi, to a one-year deal. The Sault Ste. Marie, ON native was far and away the top scorer on his team last season finishing with 54 points in 43 games and was a large reason for Weisswasser’s surprise success.

Jordie Preston signs in Füssen

Bedford, NS native Jordie Preston has signed a new 2-year deal with German Oberliga club EV Füssen. The 25-year-old winger put up big numbers in 2008-09 with league rival Landsberg. Preston joins defenseman Ricky Helmbrecht as the second of three imports allowed at that level.
